Cabinet approves amendment to Lokayukta Act

The Cabinet approved an amendment to the Lokayukta Act today. As per the amendment the assets information can now be submitted by Nov 5. The earlier deadline was June 30. 35 Legislators including Chief Minister Parrikar had not submitted the assets statement to the Lokayukta within the stipulated timeframe. The Lokayukta accordingly submitted a report to the governor.

Goans against CRZ 2018

Concerned Citizens, activists, politicians and NGO’s who are demanding immediate withdrawal of the draft CRZ notification 2018 started a statewide protest from the coastal village of Casaulim by garlanding the statue of late Mathany Saldanha and planting a coconut tree. The activists, NGO’s and politicians across the state who have united under the banner of Goans against CRZ 2018 alleged that the amendment done on July 2,2018 will severely affect endemic flora and fauna of ecologically sensitive areas, degrade the marine ecology, coastal environment and the aesthetic use of the sea coast. They appealed to Goans to oppose the draft CRZ notification 2018.

Digital taxi meters in Dec

The state informed the high court Bombay at Goa that fitting of digital fare meters with global positioning system (GPS) in tourist taxis will begin by December 25 when the matter came up before a division bench.
GOA DAIRY FINAL HEARING

The Registrar of Cooperative Societies(RCS) has scheduled the final hearing in the Goa Dairy alleged irregularities case on July 19. The Board of Directors (BoD) has asked for more time to reply to a few points raised by RCS.
Acting upon the complaints of alleged irregularities in purchasing machineries, raw materials for cattle feed and procurement of milk from outside the state, the Registrar of Cooperative Societies had ordered an inquiry into the functioning of Goa Dairy through a chartered accountant.

BHANDARI SAMAJ CM?

The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) claimed that it does not consider cast and religion of partymen as criteria while assigning them posts. “We never go by casts and religion for posts. Anybody can hold higher position in the party based on merit,” said party spokesperson while speaking to media persons in the capital.
“We need support of all castes,” they added.
The party was responding to statements made by RDA Minister Jayesh Salgaonkar that the next chief minister of Goa will come from the Bhandari Samaj.

Aerial bunched cables to replace overhead electricity wires

Against the backdrop of a power crisis gripping the State on a regular basis, the government has decided to replace the existing overhead electrical wires with aerial bunched cable (ABC) across Goa. The department has also decided to act against consumers using domestic connections for commercial purposes, and will impose penalty and discontinue the supply.
