Bimal Roy Film Festival

The Ganga Zuari Academy in collaboration with National Film Archives of India (Pune) and Entertainment Society of Goa (Panaji) has organized this film festival as a tribute to master filmmaker Bimal Roy. Entry is free on first come first serve basis. Bimal Roy films are all must-see! Formal welcome ceremony is at 5pm on Saturday with guest of honor Smt (Dr) Rinki Roy Bhattacharya (daughter of Bimal Roy), chief guest Subhash Phal Desai and other dignitaries on Saturday evening at 5pm. Venue: Macquinez Palace auditorium I, ESG Complex, Panaji. Date: Sat/Sun, Feb8 & 9. Time: As scheduled — Parineeta (1953, starring Ashok Kumar, Meena Kumari, Manorama, 2 hour film), Sat/6pm; Yahudi (1958, Dilip Kumar, Meena Kumari, Sorab Modi, 2 hours) – Sun/11am; Sujata (1959, Sunil Dutt, Nutan, 2 hours) – 3pm; Bandini (1963, Nutan, Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra, 2hours) – 6pm.

FESTIVALS

Walk Away Cancer: To mark World Cancer Day (Feb4) there is a fundraiser cancer awareness rally to highlight issues of cancer patients. Apart from the walk there will be an accompanying pop sale of organic produce and interaction with cancer survivors, also music by Sonia Shirsat. An evening not to miss. WORKSHOPS
Paper Engineering: Learn to work with paper, this paper engineering workshop will be for three Saturdays. `Pride & Prejudice’: A semi-musical drawing inspiration from the famous novel of the same name by Jane Austen, directed by Fr Walter D’Souza and hosted by the Nirmala Institute of Education, Altinho, Panaji. CONFERENCE
The State of the Law: This year’s fifth edition of Difficult Dialogues conference focuses on the vital issue of the law in South Asia. The 3-day conference is hosted by the International Centre Goa, Goa University and VM Salgaocar College of Law in collaboration with University of Oxford (UK), Bar Association of India Centre for Study of Law and Governance at Jawaharlal Nehru University, OP Jindal Global University and PLAN India. The eminent speakers include Dr Pinky Anand (additional solicitor general of India), Prof Raj Kumar, Prof Linda Mulcahy, Vrinda Grover, Justice Sujata Manohar, Shyam Mueller, Prof Venkatesh Iyer, Arif Mohammed Khan, Ghazala Jamil, Farah Naqvi and others. The Monte Music Festival

The Monte Music Festival
A 3-day treat of a festival which has become iconic for music aficianados. The festival which is a fusion of West-East music brings together local, national and international artistes to perform against the superlatively beautiful backdrop of the courtyard of Our Lady of the Mount Chapel in Old Goa. Since the first edition in 2002 the festival has been making a name for itself, after the chapel was restored by Fundacao Oriente. This year’s repertoire of music three choirs performing, including Rao Kyao, Portuguese musicians whose work integrates Portugal-India notes. Other highlights: Indian classical dance recital `Ritumaalya, a Garland of Seasons’ by Prachi Saathi and Deepali Salil (bharata natyam), Saji Menon (Mohini Attam), Namrate Mehta (Odissi); a presentation by Ave Maria of the Kala Academy Choir directed by Maestro Rev Romeo Monteiro; on Feb8 a Goan sitar presentation by Ustad Chhote Rahimat with Mansoor Khan and Dr Uday Kulkarni; the Stop-Gaps Choral Ensemble from Mumbai directed by Alfred d’Souza and more.
