OCEANFRONT RACING ARRIVES IN GOA…

Life & Living, ON MY OWN, Sep 13- Sep 19, 2025

It’s nice to know India’s smallest and most eco-sensitive state has enough funds to host a khaas aadmi event of high decibal thrills and chills! I know Goa has already turned into a high-end wine, women and song destination with international concerts of the mod con digital kind to brainwash the youth of our monied classes, add on casinos on land and sea, count all the luxury starry hotels multiplying…and the chase is on to woo glamorous events like the latest announced last week.
This is the first time ever in Goa that an Indian Racing Festival is to take place at a specially developed ocean track at Vasco da Gama – scheduled for Oct 31 to Nov 1, a 3-day event which will see some dynamic motor racing unfolding with competing teams from abroad. Reportedly, motor sports enthusiasts and professionals perceive their high octane four-wheelers as “horses” or something akin to that. This is not to say that motor sporting events are also seen as events where a host of men, even women (I believe 4 women are participating in the upcoming motor race) and mean machines pit their strength and skills against one another.
The event is being promoted as motor racing, festival and presumably a junket for the children of our millionaires, billionaires, trillionaires – any kind of car racing is definitely khaas aadmi pass time, although one may be told there’s more to it than just that. It’s pitting mankind and “iron horses” together on track to see who wins! I don’t if there’ll be betting.
Anyway, our adventurous Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant is quite gung ho about this high-end sports and tourism event, as he sees it, and has given his blessing to it with the signing ceremony which took place on Sept 11, 2025 at the ESG premises. The Racing Promotions Pvt Ltd (RTPPL) guys were present to share their vision of Goa emerging as a mega sports venue in time to come: Say hello to Akhilesh Reddy, Armaan Ebrahim and Aditya Patel, the big buys following the international motor sports circuits in one way or another. In Chennai they had a night street race in 2024, “a globally televised event that dre33w comparisons to the world’s finest circuits, marking a historic milestone that cemented RPPLO’s reputation as an innovator with global ambitions.
The event is also seen as furthering India’s yet untapped motorsport potential and Akhilesh Reddy, RPPL managing director and Megha Engineering and Infrastructure Ltd boss is the man behind all the brain power for building strategy, infrastructure and expertise and perhaps a stake in Goa which is seen as some kind of ideal motor sports venue…with this IRF event (sports, tourism, festival rolled in one) it would seem Goa will script itself as a global motorsport destination “blending international standards with Indian grit and storytelling” or says a press release.
Indeed, a 3-4 km track is being prepared along port city Vasco da Gama’s ocean front and yes this kind of ocean front track is being hailed as the first of its kind in the world. CM Pramod Sawant, “We must be positive, we don’t want to be negative.” He thinks the event being orchestrated by none other than the boss of Percept, Harry Singh (of Sunburn EDM music festival fame) will be a feather in Goa’s tourism, economy and Goa will become a sporting hub. What’s there not to like about that. The budget expenditure is something like Rs127 crore with the government of goa bankrolling it but Rs20 to 25 crore of that will go towards building an enduring infrastructure for other events in time to come. Goa is for international events, we already have IFFI after all.
Of course many Goans will wonder about who wants to make money more: the government or its cronies? It’s like everyone wants to be bankrolled by public funding nowadays, never mind that the aam aadmi ground level city roads and streets and pavements are badly in need of repairing in Panjim and elsewhere in Goa. But all that is not important! Catering to MBT joys is more important.

On that note it’s avjo, selamat datang, poiteverem, au revoir, arrivedecci, hasta la vista and vachun yeta here for now.
