AN ORGANISED LOOT OF NIZ GOENKARS!

AN ORGANISED LOOT OF NIZ GOENKARS!

Jan 10- Jan 16, 2025, Protest

Looters in high places have apportioned Goa between themselves to carry out systematic loot and elude accountability. They are like a multi-headed dragon that can be reined in or defeated only with collective force.

Don’t put the burden of protecting Goa on a few shoulders. However broad they may, the enemy is relentless and ruthless.
They will keep attacking the fortress of Goenkarponn – the uniqueness or the essence of Goa. The booties now are much higher for the looters than in 2006 – the last time Goa revolted against the systematic loot by politicians.
The available land bank is shrinking due to unabated manipulation of the Town and Country Planning (TCP) Act, 1974. There is a mad scramble to bend building rules to build bigger and taller, to monetise orchards and forests till not a single tree is left, pushing back shorelines and rivers; all because the whole world wants a piece of the paradise that is Goa.
The real estate sharks are seeking to fatten themselves on the blood of Goa, on the flesh of Goa and on the heart of Goa. The alliance between the looters and the facilitators has never been stronger than today.
Baa Baa Black Sheep .. 10 for the masters, five for the politicians and a few bones for the Godi media to keep quiet. And, nothing for the Goenkar, who lives down on the Goan red soil and is losing everything he owns. This is the skewed economics of today’s Goa.
In the olden days, looters carried out such white-collar crimes under cover and in hushed manner. Today, it is callously done in your face and without the fear of the law. A few local Rakhandars or Rakhnos – Goa’s mythical characters, who protected villages, fields, and people from harm – have taken up the cudgel.
But, by themselves, how much can they police. They must earn a living to support themselves and their family. What do you do when the people you elected to protect you openly collude with the looters to rob you?
The most honourable MLA takes the side of the goons against activist Rama Kankonkers and the side of the errant Luthras against the brave director of fire service who tried to keep Goans and tourists safe.
Goa’s rulers – that’s how they like to see themselves – sell tasty slices of Goan pizzas to the realtors like Lodhas at the cost of Goans of Arpora and Assagao.
Even as TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane pretends to retreat from Arambol, the realty rats start nibbling at Arpora and whatever little is left of Anjuna. It’s a synchronised ballet of destruction.
When eco warriors let down their guard, these invaders attack with renewed virulence. So far, the protests have been localised, confined to villages facing an immediate threat like the protest against the Bhutani project in Cortalim or the IIT in Dhargal or the ongoing protest against the Unity Mall in Chimbel or the hill cutting in Arambol or zone change in Arpora.
In each of these case, the entire village came together and forced the government to retreat. There has been no pan-Goa protest yet. But the root of Goa’s woes lies in the manipulation of the TCP Act, which is a threat to every Goan and a blatant violation of coastal regulation zone (CRZ) rules.
Theres is complicity of the double engine government in illegal activities, which are flourishing across the State for the personal benefit of the people we have elected to protect our land, our water, our air, and our very breath.
The State has been carved up into pieces for them – Bardez territory is totally under the control of the Michael Lobo family, Tiswadi has for long been the fiefdom of Atanasio Monserrate, Sattari is ruled by Vishwajit Rane and his wife while the writ of Rohan Khaunte prevails in Porvorim.
The Chief Minister Pramod Mahajan cannot assert his authority in these territories. Allegedly, the looters have their patrons in Delhi. And the Niz Goenkars, they are completely hapless and without power.
