DISCOURAGE FOREIGN TOURISTS!

HISTORICALLY, a group of Russian tourists have virtually settled in Arambol for years. The Russians along with members of the other international community like the Japanese, get together to celebrate and party like a family on Arambol beach. This time they did not get permission for their carnival float parade. When they decided to shift to a local shack, their way was blocked by ten cops. Hardly any way of treating foreign tourists!

NUCLEAR WAR THREAT

RUSSIA has suspended its nuclear treaty with the United States. The two countries have the largest number of nuclear weapons and can destroy the entire planet itself. Several countries including India developed nuclear weapons post-first and second world wars.

The understanding is that countries with nuclear weapons would not use them out of the fear of mutual destruction. If Russia uses nuclear weapons against Ukraine, the US in turn can wipe out the capital of Russia, Moscow. This is a first time that there is a serious threat of a nuclear war after the deadly weapons were developed.

CARNIVAL POLITICS

CARNIVALS this year were permitted only in constituencies controlled by BJP MLAs and ministers. For the first time a Carnival float parade was held in Porvorim because it is the home constituency of Tourism Minister MLA Rohan Khaunte. The Tourism Department refused to grant  permission for carnival parades in  popular tourism venues like Morjim, Colva, Benaulim, etc. In Margao, the on going war between Digambar Kamat and Goa Forward chief MLA Vijai Sardessai resulted in the cancellation of the planned 4-day Big Fat Carnival Blast in Fatorda.

Goa’s over 5,000 five-star restaurants are a major source of income to the government. Even before the budget the state had increased the tax deductible at source on casino earnings from 5% to 25%.

CHECK THE MRP!

NOT only in the case of ice-cream but in several other consumer products there is a huge scam. Vendors are selling consumer products at higher rates by erasing the original maximum retail price of a product. The Food & Drug Department administration has discovered that thinners are being used to hide the actual prices.

KARNATAKA GETS RS1,000CR!

IN its annual budget the Karnataka government was generously allotted Rs1,000 crore for the Khalsa Bhandura project. This is in addition of Rs300 crore from the center. It is clear that Home Minister is adamant about gifting Mhadei river headwaters to Karnataka as bait for victory in the coming 2024 elections.
