LETTERS TO THE EDITOR FOR ISSUE DATED AUGUST 16, 2025
Aug 16- Aug 22, 2025, Letters To The Editor August 15, 2025KTC BUS SERVICE FROM ANJUNA TO MAPUSA VIA ARPORA, PLEASE
THE people from Anjuna and Arpora villages are facing lots of inconvenience due to lack of a passenger bus service from Anjuna to Mapusa via Arpora for the last three years. The people are demanding at least a Kadamba bus service covering this route as soon as possible.
Approximately, it’s 4 km stretch of public road from Anjuna to Arpora which is lacking a passengers bus service to go Mapusa city. The public has to walk at least one-and-a-half km distance to board passenger buses of Chapora and Calangute routes.
Earlier, three private buses were plying on this route and this was very convenient for the public.
But suddenly three years ago all three buses varnished from plying the route, causing much inconvenience to the general public in this vicinity. Specially residents of Sim-Anjuna, Simwado and Mainat Bhati and Kudachwado, and Sankwadi Arpora, all are facing difficulties in public transport.
The public here is demanding a KTC bus service on this route in case private buses have desisted for any reason. Bus service is very important for the economically weaker sections of society.
Some years ago two passenger bus services were in operation, one from Arpora to Mapusa via Parra-Aradi, and the other from Baga-Sankwadi to Mapusa via Arpora Tinto. And a third route was from Anjuna Beach to Mapusa, via Arpora. However, all three routes have no passenger bus service at present and people don’t know to whom to address their hardships without a reliable bus service..

ROBUST JUDICIAL MECHANISM
IT WAS a day well spent at the Inner London Crown Court located at Newington, a district of Central London just south of the river Thames. The Court has 10 court halls in regular use. It was a learning experience interacting with various barristers and solicitors. It was a rewarding experience being able to observe developing technology being used to drive efficiencies to improve the functioning of the courts. The demeanour of the very polite and courteous judicial officers is laudable. Their simplicity and uprightness says it all. They are more practical than theoretical. The courts function in a very organised manner, leaving no room for miscarriages of justice.
The Crown Courts in the United Kingdom deal only with criminal matters pertaining to serious offences like murder, rape, robbery, whilst also hearing appeals against orders passed by the Magistrate courts, which deal with other criminal offences.
At the Crown Court, under the guidance and watch of the judge it is the jury, which decides if the accused is guilty or not while the judge finally decides on what the punishment should be. The jury consists of 12 ordinary citizens carefully vetted to ensure that they are without bias and are sworn to hear evidence, make findings of fact and render an impartial verdict.
The court rules, procedures and protocol are just commendable. No flimsy adjournments to drag on the cases. It could all be food for thought and ideas that other judiciaries could emulate to ensure a credible and dependable legal system that delivers.
The late Lord Denning, a robust advocate of the Law and a renowned British judge, firmly believed that “The courts exist to do justice, not to simply apply the law and that the law should be accessible to all, not just the privileged few.’’ This was all so evident in these courts.

DIGITAL INDIA!
SUCH an eloquent and detailed take down of the Election Commission of India by PTR. In the age of “Digital India,” today’s ECI needs 3 + months to conduct a general election, which was conducted in 20 days in 2004.
Twenty years after 2004 we have regressed instead of getting better. Add t this their gross incompetence. They can’t even commit fraud properly and they have been caught. Model code of conduct violations galore, Form 17 discontinued so that people couldn’t match the actual votes polled, hate speeches by their regime’s leaders that went un-punished, massive additions in the electoral rolls, the list is long.
And this is the same ECI that is going to carry out One Nation One Election? What a massive joke!
