10 questions for our times
Politics October 4, 2025By Dr Oscar Rebello
Can ALL religious heads meet, and we can knock heads, identify the major culprits savaging Goan land and TOGETHER appeal that these guys be booted out of office in 2027
Q1: When will dear old Rama be fit enough to make his statement to the magistrate?
The protests will certainly lose steam, unless he himself reveals the entire story!!
Q2: Why is it that we get heart attacks and severe cases of allergies if a Lamani or a Yadav or a Rajput gets elected to public office in Goa? But we toast the Suellas and Keiths and Valeries and Adorabelles when they get elected in the UK.
Q3: Why is it that Michael Lobo and Atanasio Babush Monserrate and Vishwajeet Rane and Vijay Sardesai, all prime beef in the real estate market, rush to weep copious tears of support for Rama?
Even Pramod Sawant, as stunned by the scale of the assault as the rest of us, went to offer aid. Only one conspicuous real estate shark was missing. Maybe, he was traveling!!
Q4: Why was the IIT Codar project scrapped? Is it that, when BJP voters rise up in angry unison, the party takes notice and backs off? So, could the BJP voter rise up more often regarding Goan issues, in a similar bout of anger. It helps you see.
Q5: It is an open secret that bribes are still the favourite currency of this administration. Palms have to greased. The handshakes always must be under the table. Anti-corruption, in Goa, is for the bees.
Any wonder then that the Goan is fed up of paying extra tax like this, in addition to GST and VAT and excise and all else?
Q6: In 2027, without a doubt, with the BJP government at the centre, there will be a BJP government in Goa. That’s a fait accompli.
So, will we all be outraged and hypertensive and insomniac about the communal secular infernal debate as always even as many of our Congress, GFP and AAP amigos ride that wave, win their constituencies, and then waltz, tango and fox-trot with the BJP, on an even more arid Goan landscape?
Q7: Will the RSS, the alleged moral custodians of the BJP, take a stand against these odiously corrupt and amoral ministerial overlords and drum some Swayamsevak sense into the Johnnies-come-lately of the BJP?
Or are those moral science lectures only for the citizenry — Not for elected representatives? Come on Guys.
Hindutva was about lost Indian pride, and I am totally with you on that page. But such behaviour in Goa would put the erstwhile Colombian cartels to shame!
Q8: Very often, I hear talk about the minor faults of activists, who put their lives on the line, highlighted by Facebook Frauds and ministers, as if they can never be trusted.
Most activists have faults. Most have made mistakes in their past. But they consistently fight lonesome battles for all Goan issues.
Are they arrogant and smug at times? Do they get on your nerves often? Are they boring moral science lecturers? Of course they are.
I was one of them a-while back. But you can never ever convince me that our governing gangsters are better, more moral and more concerned about Goa than the activist!
Never in a million years. So, for all their faults, back the activists. That’s the single Malt. The present political class is adulterated alcohol. May give you a kick, but will eventually render you blind.
Q9: I always have my reservations about organised religion. But on issues of Goan identity and environment and corruption and standards of living, most church leaders, most mutts and temples, most mullahs and jamaats, voice their strong, unabridged opinion.
So next time instead of inter-religious meets to foster peace, brotherhood or whatever is in fashion—Can ALL religious heads meet and we can knock heads, identify the major culprits savaging Goan land and TOGETHER appeal that these guys be booted out of office in 2027, no matter which party label they carry on them?
If not for Goa, at least to be true to your God!
Q10: And now that the new normal in Goa is going to be gangland wars and shootouts and murder and mayhem, can we officially invite ‘Dear President Trump’ over to broker a peace between all the gangsters?
Considering that Goa is on the international map, if he does succeed, he may get his much-deserved Nobel peace prize after all!
