ACTIVIST SAMEER VICTIMIZED FOR MAPUSA RALLY SPEECH!

The leased restaurant of activist Sameer Govekar was raided by FDA following his speech at the Mapusa rally of ‘Enough is Enough.’ Reproduced here is his letter of protest from Justice Ferdino Rebello and Director of FDA.

Gentlemen,

Yesterday (15th January 2026), an inspection was carried out by officers of your department at House No.300, Ground Floor, Sattari, Goa. The owner of the premises is Mr. Sameer Govekar of Sattari and he has let out the premises to Mr. Swapnil Padwal.

Mr. Sameer Govekar was one of the speakers at a meeting held in Mapusa on 14th January 2026 in support of the citizens’ 10-point charter and he spoke about the various illegalities going on in Sattari. The very next date surprisingly your department carried out an inspection, which is very much within your rights.
What however is surprising is when information was recorded about violations, if any, of FDA Guidelines in the establishment. We would like a response of the person or the organization which supplied the information and how many other establishments were inspected on that day.

As per your inspection report, he has been given 15 days’ time to remedy “abovementioned deficiencies”. I am informed by Mr. Govekar that he was orally informed to shut down the establishment by your officials contrary to the provisions of the FDA Act. Further, he has informed people in the organization who have informed me and thereafter he personally came to meet me at the Madgaon meeting that he has been told that his premises will be demolished.

There can be no shut down of the establishment without complying with the established procedure under the law. There is no power in the FDA to demolish anybody’s premises or harm a person. On behalf of the 10-point charter movement, let me make it clear that if you proceed illegally to shut down the establishment without authority of law or threats to demolish the establishment or his personal safety, you will be personally held responsible.

I would appreciate an immediate response.
