From the Vishwaguru Archives: This is a draft of a letter to be sent to the RSS chief. The letter writer circulated this draft Sunday evening among a few of his shakha brothers.
Revered Shri Mohan Bhagwat ji
As a third-generation member of our great organisation, I feel I have a right to express my feelings of confusion and rehension over the current national crisis, in our perennial conflict with that Islamic neighbour of ours.
Shriman, last evening when I learnt that our leadership had agreed to a cease-fire with Pakistan, I felt totally at a loss to make sense of this dramatic announcement. To my ears, it sounded like a total climb-down, almost a national meltdown. And, this morning, at the shakha, all the fellow-Swayamsevaks were equally baffled by this cease-fire with a recalcitrant enemy. No one was able to offer any credible explanation for this about-turn.
Shriman, no patriotic Hindu doubts Prime Minister Narendra’s Modiji’s commitment to the honour and dignity of our sacred motherland. But why did he have to allow the American president to twist his arm? That too when, as our nationalistic television channels were reassuring us, our valorous armed forces had acquired the upper hand in the battle-field and that we could have walked into Lahore!
As the head of our family, I am confident that you will understand why all Swayamsevaks should feel themselves dumbfounded. What is the use of the billions and billions of dollars the nation has spent on buying the most modern weapon systems if these are not used against an enemy who has sent killers to Pahalgam?
As I understand, the killers remain at large. Why wait nearly two weeks to launch Operation Sindoor? Our cunning enemy must have moved all the key figures and essential paraphernalia from the terror camps.
I am at a loss to appreciate this show-casing of that officer, Sophia Qureshi, and then also Vyomika Singh. Why should be want to earn brownie points from the secular camp or the so-called feminists? This experiment suggests a weakness among our top political leadership. It was only this evening that we fielded senior generals to explain competently the achievements of our victorious air force.
And, then, the horror of horrors, our foreign secretary asserting that we are a secular nation. This is probably first time in these past 11 years that an official of the Government of India has made this distasteful assertion.
Are we ashamed of proclaiming that we are a Hindu country which allows people of all faiths to bask under our Hindutva sun? Are we developing self-doubts about our agenda?
But, revered Sarsanghchalak, the central, nagging question remains: just when our armed forces have achieved air dominance over Pakistan, as per the assurance of most of our credible news channels, why, then, did our leadership succumb to pressure from the Americans? What was our compulsion? Why did our leaders feel themselves vulnerable to American bullying? What is our Achilles’ heel?
As a dedicated Swayamsevak I want to know the answers to these questions. All patriotic Indians are deeply, deeply hurt that Prime Minister Modi has turned out to be such a pusillanimous leader, that too when, for the first time in our history, we had this unbearable enemy by the neck? Why this submissiveness to a foreign power?
Revered sir, I am too small a person to dare to suggest that Modiji has failed us in this most critical period in our history since 1947. Of course, our fellow-citizens are bound to make a comparison with how Indira Gandhi stood up to bullying by Nixon and Kissinger in 1971.
Of course, I do dare to suggest, revered sir, that Modiji has only chamchas and durbaris as his advisers. How can we have an 80-year-old man as our national security adviser? For nearly 11 years, the same man performing this most crucial role!
And, why are we not raising questions about the failure of the home minister, Amit Shah? Why has he not been sacked? Even a weak prime minister like Manmohan Singh had fired Shivraj Patil after 26/11.
Honorable sarsanghchalak sir, you were right to remind everyone –after the Pahalgam outrage– that the “king” had a duty in such a situation. But I feel that you, as the head of our most patriotic and most nationalistic organization, have a duty to pull up the king. Especially when in election after election, we the swayamsevaks sweat it out on behalf the BJP. We as an organisation should be demanding accountability from those in the government. We do not need to embarrass them in public – that President Donald Trump has already done—but at least these ministers and super ministers should be reminded that they should not take our patriotic brothers and sisters for granted.
Sir, I seek your forgiveness if you find this letter uncalled for; but, then I and millions like me have no other guide and guru to turn to.
With greatest and highest regards,
A Swayamsevak
