OLD AGE PENSION SHOULD BE RS 7,000 PM!
Letters To The Editor November 7, 2025THE policy of the Indian government paying general old age pension of Rs7,000 per month should be executed as a prominent scheme for the senior citizens in India. This scheme should be mandatory as per graph of per capita income when India is marching towards third economy of the world.
The primary general old age pension scheme from the Central government is the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension Scheme (IGNOAPS) which provides a much lower Central government contribution? Why lower contribution? Amount must be enhanced like tender! Rs200 per month for beneficiaries aged 60 to 79 years, if is being executed, the amount should be increased as it shameful monetary assistance.
Rs500 per month for beneficiaries aged 80 years and above. Is his sufficient amount in old age? Government never ever becomes old. So the pension should be the according to the status in present time to meet the needs. It is said that scheme is for citizens belonging to below poverty line (BPL households, not a universal general pension. Why? Government should implement it for general public. State governments are encouraged to provide a top-up amount, so the total pension received can vary by state, generally ranging from Rs200 to Rs1,000 per month, and in some cases up to Rs3,000 in certain states like Haryana for their state-specific schemes, Goa is paying Rs2,500. But not Rs7,000 universally. Why? Everything is affordable when PM Modi is managing India. He has capacity. Government should use natural or artificial intelligence in association with insurance companies by paying small premiums to take out good and reasonable old age pension amount. Premiums of the senior citizens should be paid by the governments subject to eligibilities. Because there are some fake BPL and APL people in the country. Standard of living of the senior citizens must be verified.
