THE Ami Panjikar Panel, initiated by Utpal Parrikar, son of former Goa chief minister Manohar Parrikar, has taken the initiative of forming a panel to take on Panjim MLA Babush Atanasio Monserrate and son CCP mayor Rohit Monserrate. Surendra Furtado and Vaidehi Naik, former mayors, are contesting the forthcoming civic elections along with Menino D’Cruz, an employee of Alcon, and Datta Prasad Naik and activists. Clearly, the main issue will be the apathy of the Monserrate in supporting the movement for moving the casinos out of the river Mandovi in Panjim and in fact, any other river. The panel has also drawn attention to the annual flooding of Panjim in the presentation made by Sanjay Raiturkar, the Madgao-based architect, which online `Goan Observer’ focuses on this week. The Congress is backing Utpal Parrikar.
POLICE COLLUDING WITH BIRCH

THE Mapusa JMFC (Judicial Magistrate First Class Court) has ordered the immediate de-freezing of the bank accounts belonging to YB Hospitality, which operates the Birch by Romeo nightclub in Arpora, Goa. The group under the name of YB Hospitality also operates Caha Resort & Restaurant in Goa, rich peoples hospitality, they also run a restaurant under the Romeo brand at Mohalli in Punjab. Saurav and Gaurav Luthra are partners. Apparently, the PI at Anjuna police station did not take the permission of the district magistrate as required before de-freezing the Luthras’ bank account. A deliberate omission to help the Luthras.
MEGA SHIVAJI EXHIBITION

OVER 150 paintings depicting different episodes from the life and times of Maratha warrior king, Shivaji Maharaj, each accompanied by a poem, is up on display in Sanguem. The exhibition is part of the Shivaji Jayanti celebrations. A 35-foot statue of Shivaji Maharaj seated on a throne was inaugurated at 7pm on Thursday by Swami Brahmeshwaran of Tapobhumi in old Goa. There was also a procession from Dando Sanguem to the Sangameshwar temple. Meanwhile, the Mormugoa Port Trust has objected to the erection of a mega statue of Shivaji Maharaj within the MPT premises.
ROBOTIC DOG ROW

THE much advertised Galgotia private university was evicted from the international, artificial intelligence summit presently going on in the national capital of New Delhi. The students and staff of the University apparently tried to pass off a Chinese made robotic dog as their own invention. Instead of leveraging Indian talent the university embarrassed the organizers by its deception.
YADAV COMMUNITY PROTEST

THE Yadav community has objected to the release of a Hindi film Yadavji ka Love Story. Their objection is because the film shows a Yadav man falling in love with a Muslim girl, the demonstrators have filed an FIR claiming that the film will affect communal harmony and create major problems including possible communal riots in Bihar. The Yadavs are the dominant community in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
CINEPHILE CLUB
THE Cinephile Club of the ESG offered its audience a rare cinematic experience with a special screening of the iconic silent film called Nosferatu accompanied by live improvised music by Martin Melindez. The film is widely regarded as one of the most influential films in cinema history. It was an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s 1897 novel “Dracula.” The film will be screened on February 19 at 6.30pm at the Macquinez Palace auditorium.
THE PURSUIT OF PERFEKTION’
CAPTAIN Schubert Jacinto Pires has released his fourth book --The Pursuit of Perfektion.’ Pires, who is a shippie remarks, “The sea teaches you a lot, it reveals your personality and does not judge whether you are good or bad.” Capt Pires has spent 25 years at sea. The book was released at Bookwork in Margao last week and is available on Amazon.
CHHATRAPATI SHIVAJI MAHARAJ JAYANTI CELEBRATED

THE State level Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti Samaroh was celebrated with great enthusiasm at Farmagudi, Ponda, bringing together citizens and dignitaries to honour the enduring legacy and ideals of the great Maratha king. The program highlighted Shivaji Maharaj’s vision of strong leadership, nation-building and ethical governance through a series of speeches and cultural presentations.
Speaking on the occasion, Power Minister Ramkrishna (Sudin) Dhavalikar, Shivaji Maharaj remains a guiding inspiration for the nation today. His ideal are being actively promoted with the development of a fort and museum in Ponda, under the guidance of the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
Keynote speaker Krishnaji Kulkarni set the tone of the evening by invoking the iconic Maratha king as a self-made leader whose courage and foresight shaped the vision of nationhood. He emphasized that Shivaji Maharaj had aspired for a united India and established a system of governance rooted in strong moral values and it is this which continues to inspire generations.
The book “Shivkalin Udakache Vyavasthapan,” translated by Shyam Gaonkar from the original work “Shivkalin Jalniti” authored by Dr Lahu Gayakwad, was released. The cover of the book has been designed by Sarvesh Phadke. Extending the spirit of the celebrations beyond the main event, a series of theatre performances have been organised across Goa from 18 to 24 February. Schools from different parts of the state presented Chhatrapati Shivaji-themed plays to reinforce awareness about the Maratha king’s life and times amongst the the younger generation.
Present at the program were Virendra Dhavalikar, chairperson of Ponda Municipal Council; Ganpat Naik, Zilla Panchayat member; Sukhanand Gaude, sarpanch of Bandoda; Chitra Phadte, deputy sarpanch; Ritesh Naik, councillor; Ramchandra Naik, panch; Dipak Bandekar, director of Information & Publicity and Krishnaji Kulkarni, along with the keynote speaker and with local representatives and citizens.
