HI MUMBAI, MERI JAAN BUT…
Life & Living, Oct 24- Oct 30, 2026 October 23, 2026Funny or not funny, be amused or not! This is my continuing Mumbai-cum-Goa diary…sadly said au voir to Mumbai after a three week sojourn there chasing this and that fruitlessly, no PF closure nor an old bank account closure, sarkari raj systems like to put away seniors in cold storage or something like that. It was a pleasant 6.25pm Akasa Airline flight 1175 back to Mopa aiport, very smooth landing and an hour-and-half later, shorter time if arrival at Mopa…only to find my one baggage piece missing and searching high and low was told by very efficient airport Akasa Airlines staff that t Mumbai security spied the two phone power banks in my luggage and had my bag removed in custody for further investigation! Are power banks so dangerous? Not akin to atom bombs surely? I had packed them inadvertently in check in baggage without thinking and so…well, no baggage for me at Mopa. Hell’s bells continue to ring for me! I pray my truant baggage arrives today and I may go pick it up minus power banks and whatever odds and ends I had hurriedly packed…sad to say goodbye Mumbai, goodbye Ramakrishna Math in Khar, I have taken such a shine to this century old sanstha! But happy to say hello to quieter, cleaner, still worth breathing in bangarache Goem! Flight was packed with casino gamblers! Nothing left to say except a few clicks to stay alive today…and thanks to Freedom Holidays’ Devender Shetye for smoothening flight details for me!

Bombay which has become Mumbai, my blues continue but regardless of whether I get my PF money back or not, regardless of whether I get my frozen bank account money back or not, after all how much did one earn in media those days in the 1970s 1980s for all the miserable hard work we did…ghostwriting filmstars’ beauty and broken love relationships advice in ‘Debonair’ and ‘Mid-Day’! And me in my 20s and 30s nose to the grind…the few joys of being back in Bombay that is Mumbai is that I have found the Ramakrishna Mission out at Khar. I can’t go there enough early morning to breathe in the currently ongoing Durga Puja and this morning was a treat…a click to stay alive today!
