ARVIND KEJRIWAL ARREST!

THE United States of America government has requested India to adopt a fair, transparent and timely legal process, with respect to the arrest of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Earlier, the German government had protested to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the manner in which Kejriwal was arrested.

The US Commission on International Religious Freedom also has been critical of the Citizenship Amendment Act. Though Arvind Kejriwal was arrested for alleged involvement in the infamous Delhi liquor excise scam, no money has been discovered either with Kejriwal or at his party offices. This is arresting Opposition leaders without any proof, say INDI Opposition leaders without timely provision of bail as legally required in routine jurisprudence. What is it if not dictatorship in the worst sense of the word?

SMART CITY PANAJI

THE Goa Bench of the Bombay high court has again pulled up the state government on dust pollution caused by haphazard smart city roadways projects. The high court was hearing two petitions over dust pollution in Panaji. The petitioner complained about worst ever unplanned work going on for months altogether under the Smart City projects.   Smart City is dumb city. There’s  alleged mega corruption in the designing and sale of Smart City bus stands to take just one example.  

NEPAL MAYOR’S DAUGHTER

THE whereabouts of the 36-year-old Nepali woman, the daughter of a mayor in Nepal, was reported missing for several days but she has now been found safe and sound in Goa. Her father confirmed this in a Facebook update on March 27, Wednesday morning. He added that she is currently in a weak condition.

Gopal Hamal, mayor of the Dhangadhi sub-metropolitan city in Nepal, says his  elder daughter, Aarti, a follower of Osho meditation, had been staying in Goa for the past few months when came rumours that she was untraceable. However, now that she is found he expressed my gratitude to all the Nepali brothers and sister in Goa who helped in tracking her down. He and his youngest daughter and her husband were all set to fly down to  Goa to search for Aarti for she was last seen on Monday night around 9:30 pm in the vicinity of North Goa’s Ashvem Bridge.

Her younger sister Arzoo Hamal took to social media and said that according to some callers, she was last spotted at a bridge near Siolim. They had also lodged a  First Information Report (FIR) with the Goa Police fearing something terrible had happened to her! However, all is well and Aarti is doing fine now.

MICROSOFT STIPEND

BIG high-tech firms like Google and Microsoft are offering one Rs1lakh per month stipends to undergraduates in India. The areas in demand are data science and cloud. The IIT Mandi has reportedly sent 27 students. The Bengaluru RV Engineering and the Vellore Institute of Technology have also been approached by companies like Amazon. 


JUSTICE VALMIKI PERMANENT JUDGE!

THE honourable Justice Valmiki Menezes took oath as the permanent judge of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, on March 27 at the swearing-in-ceremony held in the presence of judges, senior advocates and others at the High Court of Bombay at Goa premises at Penha-de-Franca, Porvorim. Senior judge Justice Mahesh Sonak administered the oath of office to Justice Valmiki.

  Justice Valmiki Menezes hails from the village of Goa Velha. He enrolled as an advocate on the Roll of Bar Council of Maharashtra and Goa in 1992. He practised at the High Court of Bombay at Goa in Civil and Constitutional Law, Labour and Service Law, Environmental Law, Commercial, Tax and Company Laws, Public Interest Litigations and laws relating to the Portuguese Civil Code. He also practised before the District and Sessions Courts of North and South Goa Districts, the Industrial Tribunal and the Administrative Tribunal at Goa. He was  former president and secretary of the Goa High Court Bar Association. He was elevated as additional judge of the High Court of Judicature at Bombay on July 19,  2022.
