VERY EXPENSIVE DIWALI 2026

THE cost of living has gone up not only in the United States but in India also. The Iran war has affected everyone. A huge increase in the cost of petrol and diesel has affected not only care and bike owners but also workers because many factories depend on diesel. The cost of domestic appliances ranging from pressure cookers to washing machine has gone up by an average of 12%. The cost of mithai by 15% and that of pista by 100%. The lights of Diwali are not glowing.
AMITABH BEHIND BULLET PROOF SHIELD

AFTER the gun shot fired on Tiger Shroff by the Bishnoi gang several filmstars are very scared. It may be recalled that Salman Khan has been a repeat target of the gang for allegedly hunting and killing black bucks (a kind of forest deer). Now we hear it is Amitabh Bachchan who makes an appearance every Sunday from his residence balcony to grant darshan to his many fans who gather en masse. Last week he appeared with a bullet proof glass shield before him. However, the other superstar, Shah Rukh Khan continues to appear on his balcony unafraid of any bullets.

OVERCROWDED NEPAL BUS

A BUS travelling to Nepal had 148 passengers. A bus going from Mapusa in Goa to Nepal, and carrying migrants of Uttar Pradesh and Nepali origin, was stopped by police on November 4. Apparently, the bus with a capacity of 48 was carrying more than three times the number of passengers permitted. The bus converted into a triple-decker with even the roof offering seats to passengers.
Reportedly, migrants and their dependence on a holiday back home, had to Rs4,000 each for the journey to Nepal. The bus had been operating every week for the last four years in connivance with the RTO and other officials.
RAVANA NOT SO BAD!

THE actress playing Sita in the new Ramayan film “Sai Pallavi” has been attacked in social media over her comments on Ravana. Sai Pallavi reportedly commented that Ravana is not that all bad. Ravan/Ravana of Hindu religious mythology was an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and he is in fact worshiped at the Gokarna Shiva temple. Ravana is considered by Hindus as a scholar and musician too apart from being a villain, “rakshas.”
Contrast this with Lord Ram who is criticised for being anti-women, didn’t he force Sita, his wife, to undergo the “agnipariksha” based on bazaar gossip in those times of old?
‘RISHI’ FOR 6th EAFF IN NEW YORK
GOAN experimental short film Rishi, directed by Mario Pimenta and Anlisa Rodrigues, has earned an official international selection at the 6th Egyptian American Film Festival (EAFF), scheduled to take place from November 6 to 12, 2026 at the Center for the Arts, Staten Island, New York. The festival with the theme of “Cinema For Life” is dedicated to the memory of legendary international film star Omar Sharif.
The film is directed by Mario Pimenta and Anlisa Rodrigues and it features actor and musician Cyrus Fernandes in the title role, alongside model and actress Roshni Maurya as Zoya. The film is unconventional with no spoken dialogue. Its narrative unfolds through a voiceover representing Zoya’s inner thoughts (voiced by Sneha Fernandes). The film is conceptualised and directed by Mario Pimenta while Anlisa handled cinematography.
“Rishi” explores love, loss, friendship, emotional closure. It revolves around the idea that everyone has a Rishi in their life — someone who becomes an inseparable part of their journey. Death remains inevitable. The film has garnered several selections at national and international film festivals. Interestingly, this is not Mario Pimenta’s first association with the Egyptian American Film Festival. His earlier film, “Act To Achieve” was also selected for a previous edition of the festival. The EAFF for Cinema and Arts was founded with a vision of bridging science and art by showcasing outstanding scientific figures who have made significant contributions to humanity. The film’s selection is yet another encouraging achievement for Goa’s emerging filmmaking community.
REMEMBER DR HOMI BHABHA ON OCT 30 OCTOBER!

OCTOBER 30 is the birth anniversary of Dr Homi Jehangir Bhabha! He is the Father of India’s Nuclear Progam, the visionary who is remembered by men and women of science. His birth anniversary is celebrated annually for he was one of India’s most distinguished scientists, a pioneering theoretical physicist, and the principal architect of the country’s atomic and nuclear energy program.
Born in Bombay October 30, 1909 Dr Bhabha made remarkable contributions to theoretical physics, particularly in the fields of cosmic rays, elementary particles and quantum theory. His pioneering work on electron-positron scattering, now known as Bhabha Scattering, and his research with Walter Heitler on cosmic-ray particle showers earned him international recognition. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1941.
Dr Bhabha firmly believed that scientific excellence and technological self-reliance were essential for India’s progress. Guided by this vision, he established the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR) in 1945, creating a world-class centre for advanced research in fundamental sciences.

In 1948, he became the first chairman of India’s Atomic Energy Commission. He subsequently played a pivotal role in establishing the Department of Atomic Energy in 1954 and founded the Atomic Energy Establishment, Trombay (AEET) in the same year. Following his untimely demise in 1966, AEET was renamed the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre (BARC) in his honour.
His vision extended beyond nuclear energy. He championed indigenous scientific research, developed scientific manpower, encouraged interdisciplinary collaboration and advocated the peaceful applications of atomic energy for national development. He also played an important role in advancing India’s international scientific engagement, presiding over the first United Nations Conference on the Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy in Geneva in 1955.
A remarkable scientist with a deep appreciation for art, music and architecture, Bhabha believed that scientific institutions should nurture creativity, intellectual freedom and excellence. His legacy lives on through the institutions he founded, the scientific capabilities he helped establish and generations of Indian scientists inspired by his vision.
Dr Bhabha’s greatest contribution was not merely building India’s atomic energy program, but nurturing the scientific foundations of a self-reliant and technologically progressive nation. The country over on his birth anniversary many pay tribute to this extraordinary visionary whose dreams continue to inspire India’s scientific journey. In memory of a scientist, visionary and nation builder we share here a rare photograph of Dr Homi Bhabha alongside some of the leading minds of his time, also pictures of Dr Homi Bhabha with Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru published in the booklet “Nuclear India” by the Department of Atomic Energy, government of India, in 1989, as part of the Jawaharlal Nehru Centenary Year celebrations.
