Letters To The Editor, May 09- May 15, 2026 May 8, 2026ENOUGH IS ENOUGH AND DELTIN ROYALE
THE Enough is Enough movement has filed a caveat before the Supreme Court of India in connection with the proposed Deltin Royale casino vessel in the Mandovi River. This step has been taken following the interim order passed by the Bombay high court at Goa restraining the sailing and operation of the new casino vessel at Panaji port. The movement apprehends that the casino company may approach the Supreme Court challenging the high court’s interim order.
By filing the caveat, Enough is Enough seeks to ensure that no order is passed by the Supreme Court without first hearing the concerns and objections raised by the petitioners and the people of Goa.
The movement has consistently maintained that the introduction of a larger casino vessel in the ecologically sensitive Mandovi river raises serious environmental, navigational and public interest concerns. The people of Goa have repeatedly expressed opposition to the further expansion of offshore casino activities in the state.
Enough is Enough has reaffirmed its commitment to continue the legal and democratic fight to protect Goa’s rivers, environment and whatever is of common public interest.

TO DIDI, WITH LOVE & ADMIRATION.
REDOUTABLE. Formidable. Mamata Banerjee’s remarkable courage, vibrant and irrepressible personality and tenacious determination. She is deeply inspiring for me, a unique leader and chief minister. Contrary to media stereotypes she is a highly gifted administrator with many policy successes under her belt, including an enduring welfare and empowerment model that has been awarded by the United Nations. Didi changed the face of Kolkata from the dilapidated Left Front years to the extent that Bengal now gets the second largest number of international tourists in India.
Most of us know that Mamata Banerjee inherited a broken system from the Left and yet she built a modern Bengal in the face of huge odds. Three years into her first term — she came to power in 2011. She was landed with the Narendra Modi regime at the Centre by 2014, a hostile Central government which did not allow her to work, denied Central funds to Bengal, and blocked central schemes in Bengal even as she fought to consolidate herself politically.
We must recall that Modi as Gujarat chief minister was allowed to project his so called “Gujarat model” when a benevolent Manmohan Singh was PM in Delhi. Mamata Banerjee also did act against some of her own associates accused of wrong-doing and did not fight shy of prosecuting them. It has required a an Election Commission, two lakh security forces and an entire Modi-Amit Shah led system to defeat this indomitable warrior chief minister who decided to fight back in the face of injustice.
I am proud to have, in my own small way, fought this fight alongside Mamata Banerjee and the All India Trinamool Congress and been a part of her self-built, spirited party, which has given so many women real representation and visibility. The media character assassination directed at Mamata Banerjee is in no small measure because of the entrenched hostility — even hatred — women still continue to face in public life. We have been defeated at the polls and bow to the will of the people. But the fight for democracy, justice and democratic rights and for representation of women which continues under the symbol of the leaf and flower, which stands bravely upright, close to the ground of our beloved land. Joy Bangla. Jai Samvidhan. Mamata Banerjee Zindabad.
