NEET LEAKS AGAIN, SECOND TIME IN TWO YEARS!By Dr RG Wiseman Pinto

Cover Story, May 23- May 29, 2026

Over 20 lakh students are being tortured with having to repeat the National Entrance Eligibility Test for entry to medical colleges. This follows the cancellation of the NEET exam held by the government-control National Testing Agency on May 3, 2026. Nobody at the top including the director general of NTA Abhishek Singh and far less the health minister has taken responsibility

Indians all over the world whether in Goa, India, Gulf, USA, UK, Canada. Australia, New Zealand or any other country consider Medicine and Engineering as the top professions (excluding politics and business) as these professions ensure a rich and fame life style.
Not all doctors and engineers do well. A certain percentage does. Indians study the system and how to break it or short cut it. They will use any means to achieve their goal. Even in the marriage market medicine has a price. Corruption, Power and Greed are the bad enemies of India.
In the 1960s, and 70s Merit had a say. After the Mandal Commission , round about 50 % or more seats in Government Medical Colleges are reserved. So the General category student has to compete for the limited number of MBBS seats . This year 2026 the number of MBBS seats are 129,603 seats. In 824 Medical College in India.
In Govt Medical Colleges where the fees are less there are 63000 MBBS Seats. The private and deemed Medical colleges have 66,000 MBBS Seats. They charge an exorbitant fee that can go to Rs 1 crore or more.
For admission to these Medical Colleges the NTA ( National Testing Agency ) conducts the Entrance exam called as NEET ( National Eligibilty cum Entrance Test ). Around 23 lakh students sit for this test held all over india and overseas . Once the result is declared the MCC ( Medical Counselling Committee ) both in Delhi ( Central ) and in every state conducts the MBBS admission process
Taking into the figures 23 lakh students for 130000 approx of which half or more than half seats are reserved for different categories The chances of getting MBBS Admission becomes difficult for a student with average intelligence. Moreover private colleges charging around Rs 1 crore and more Short cuts are used to get the paper leaked .
At a price .This price varies from Rs 10 to Rs 20. to Rs 30 lakhs, or more So this corruption is going on for years . Last year also it occurred.
Moreover the students. Their parents ,families and well wishers are doing lots of sacrifice. to study. Tution lasses, books etc. Many of the Tution classes have links with the Officials of the Agencies or the teachers who set the papers.
It is very bad The leaked papers were identified and many arrests done in parts of India. Even many suicides were Reported including one in Goa.
So the NEET UG exam held on May 3 has been cancelled and the New fresh date fir this exam is 21 june 2026.
The whole system has to be overhauled. A good example is JEE For IIT and BITSAT for BITS Pilani type Institutions. These are on line exams .

Important points
1 the question bank and paper setters and moderators must be large and broad based and many.
2 on line exams will solve lot of issues
3 officials with the highest integrity and sincerity be appointed in this space .

Such a tribe is rare in india
Those who do not secure the MBBS join BDS ie Dental . Others try MBBS Admission in other countries like Georgia. Phillipines, China etc .
The remaining join the AYUSH Courses like Ayurveda. Homeopathy. Unani. Sidha. and Allied courses like Physiotherapy. Occupational therapy. Speech therapy, optometry. Imaging technology ,anesthesia technology etc. Also others join pharmacy , Lab tech courses. EEG ECG Tech. and other allied courses.
Some join veterinary medicine which is showing a lot of scope as many young generations and their families have pets and take care of them .
On flights one can see young girls and boys travelling with their pets cats and dogs. Travel industry and holidays are also upcoming areas going to expand. Once in any course many Indians use unfair means to complete the course. The less said and written the better.
Unfortunately the new Generation is having an Anti Flynn effect ( research pioneered by James Flynn) One more horrible action taken by the authorities is give admissions in UG and PG with a score of 0 or negative score.
Remember, medicine deals with the lives of humans. The scope to make errors is limited. Do Hope that the ecosystem in Medicine improves in India , especially in this new Generation of AI ( Artificial Intelligence), Genomics, Robotics, and digital. Personalised medicine. Molecular medicine, preventive medicine, and telemedicine.
In medicine, one should not forget the stress and is a lifelong learning. Medicine evolves every few minute, hour and day. Good Doctors will bring good health to the society. We must aim to have a happy, healthy and peaceful society in Goa and India.
