PASSPORT IS DE-VALUED!

The Modi government has now declared that the Indian passport is not proof of Indian citizenship. Historically, the passport which is issued after rigorous scrutiny, was the ultimate proof of Indian nationality. Countries all over the world respect and honor the passport as the identity of India and Indians. But now the external affairs ministry which issues passports claims it is only a travel document. The Election Commission of India does not accept Aadhaar card as proof of identity that you’re an Indian. Presumably, only registration under the Indian Citizens Act of 2025 passed to drive away so called Bangladeshi and Rohingyas will be the only acceptable test of citizenship.

POWER REFUND

THE Promod Sawant government has finally listened to the angry voices of consumers of electricity in the state. It may be recalled that the Electricity Department had started imposing penalty for consumption of power beyond a sanctioned load. Power bills shot up steeply to double or triple the average monthly bill in the last three months. The state government has now decided not only to cancel the penalty but also refund the Rs43crore it had collected by way of penalty. This is supposed to be adjusted against future power bills. There is no change in the amount payable in June as our bill which averaged Rs800 is Rs3,000 for the month of May.

HEAT WAVE IN EUROPE

A HEAT wave warning has been issued not only by the government of UK but also the governments of France, Italy and Spain. The UK warning states that there is a threat to life due to the heat wave which is sweeping across the UK. You can see visible signs of the heat wave as the Indian women’s cricket team taking part in the World Cup are wearing sunglasses while playing in UK. The ongoing Work Cup Football has also been affected as drinks break have been provided in each half of play time. Football players however insist this is just a money-making racket to give additional six minutes to advertisers.

TEJPAL FINGERTIPS

THE former editor of Tehelka, Tarun Tejpal, is under fire for sending a text message “Fingertips”to the victim of the alleged sexual assault. This was revealed by the solicitor general of India Tushar Mehta during an appeal against the district court judgement acquitting Tejpal in the sexual molestation charge on Monday, June 22, 2026. The charge was made by an intern who was one f the volunteers at an event organized by Tehelka at the Bambolim Hyatt in Goa eight years ago. The solicitor general has objected strongly to the defamation of the victim.

SENATE TRIPS FROM WINGS

THE US Senate has put sharp curbs on the amount that Donald Trump can spend on the ongoing war against Iran. Donald Trump, the US president, has reportedly spent over $300 billion on the war so far. The US Senate which consists of two representatives of each of the 50 American states is controlled by the Republicans who elected Donald Trump to power. It is a major embarrassment for the president that the Senate which has been loyal to him has decided that the war has gone enough long enough. Trump is now anxious for a peace deal to save face because he is aware he does not have political support any longer.

 CROCODILE IN MALA

A CROCODILE apparently sought shelter under a parked car near the Mushtifund school near the Mahalakshmi temple. The primary section is still here. Mala has been in the news recently for the dead fish found in Mala lake. Presumably, the crocodile decided that the backwaters of Goa are too polluted for it to survive. So it decided to literally take to the streets in the believe that it will be safer on land than in the water bodies of Goa.
