LETTER TO THE EDITOR FOR THE ISSUE DATED JUNE 20, 2026
June 20- June 26, 2026, Letters To The Editor June 19, 2026STILT PARKING, 2 FLOORS ALLOWED!
PROPOSING a stilt plus two floor construction should be allowed in Arpora- Nagoa village with specific planning. Under current Town & Country Planning (TCP) rules in Goa, stilt floors dedicated to parking are generally exempt from Floor Area Ratio (FAR) and building height calculations, allowing you to effectively maximize your two upper residential/commercial floors. The stilt parking must be added to FAR to avoid height for environmental safety.
To successfully get your project approved by the Bardez Planning & Development Authority (BPDA) and the Village Panchayat of Arpora-Nagoa, you must meet the following baseline requirements such as height shall be calculated from the top of the stilt level. For a G+2 structure, it usually stays under the 9-meter threshold, which exempts from highly restrictive high-rise fire norms.
The maximum Floor Area Ratio (FAR) should be depend on exact zone which ever specified. Henceforth, if anyone requires additional FAR and height, the TCP department should stop permitting it, even upon payment of huge official fees to generate revenue, to avert nuisance of garbage menace in future.

MAKE YOGA DAY SESSIONS OPTIONAL!
We appreciate the intent to promote yoga on International Yoga Day, June 21. Yoga is valuable, and we teach it ourselves. However, mandating attendance on a Sunday for teacher and students is deeply concerning.
Goan teachers have had no summer break due to census and election duties in extreme heat. Many serve on contract for years, some without timely pay and some have not got paid for years. Sunday is their only day for rest, family and recovery.
Compulsion contradicts yoga’s core principle: consent. Wellness cannot be forced. Forced attendance on a holiday will breed resentment, not health.
We respectfully urge the Directorate of Education, government of Goa, to make the session optional, or shift it to school hours on a working day. Let’s promote yoga through inspiration, not imposition.
A rested, respected teacher, builds a healthier Goa. I’ve emailed to the Director of Education and also to the CM of Goa. Would like your support as the teaching staff is not happy at all.
