HI MUMBAI MERI JAAN BUT…
Life & Living, Oct 17- Oct 23, 2026 October 16, 2026My funny and not so funny Mumbai diary currently, be amused or not. Provident fund story at a comma stop and got up thinking why do we make life difficult to live for one another, what worth is life if we do not give a damn for one another and grant dignity for parents, family, friends, even enemies…we have no problems taking and taking away with both hands but hate giving with even one hand! So busy we are chasing the good life worth chasing or not
…okay, change my thoughts, last evening at a loose end in Juhu I decided to look up Goa Bhavan nearby and found Gujarat Bhavan too next door. Lovely lane location, Yadav at reception told me booking for six rooms and two 4bed dorm has to be done from Goa secretariat in Porvorim. No booking from Mumbai! They’re usually full house so give 10 days notice…it’s Rs1,000 per night double bedroom…the canteen restaurant was dismal but offering zitt-coddi (fish curry-rice) meals. Well, my clicks to stay alive in noisy Mumbai surburbia today in case tomorrow never comes

My Bombay versus Mumbai diary saga continues, funnily and not funnily, nobody can help me or wants to accept that technology is dumb, deaf and blind in turns…like machines may be perfect but we humans can never be. So all we will do is punish one another on the altar of technology digital or otherwise. This is to say I am nowhere near getting my old provident fund rusticating somewhere in sarkari coffers and one of these days I’ll just call it a life and come back to Goa. Mumbai is not my cup of tea anymore or so to speak and I like a little bit of honey in my bitter tea…for one thing it’s hot, hot, hot in Mumbai that was Bombay once upon a time! All I do to calm myself is chase foodie places with friends ever ready to indulge me I don’t know why…my bestie Mita and family returning to home city Calcutta for Durga Puja and I am desolate. Mumbai is in Navaratri mode on the streets…and my neighbour here Neelam Luthra who lives a perfect life, tells me she’ll take me to some filmi ras garba event to eat halva-puri and “rajgira puri” with “kala chana” etc, I may say hello some film stars like Kajol and Devgan and Rani…Kajol hosts the best Navaratri evenings this side of Juhu, something like that! Well, I am sailing in doldrums and back to my old panacea of stuffing myself with beloved food here and there…not really! A few clicks to stay alive today if not tomorrow:
