GOAN STATEHOOD
Dr Jack de Sequeira is considered the Architect of the Opinion Poll of Goa. He was born on April 20, 1915. He was founder father president of the United Goan Party and the first Opposition leader in the Goa Legislative Assembly. He worked very hard to mobilize Goans to protect Goa’s unique separate identity and prevent its merger with Maharashtra. The Opinion Poll held on January 16, 1967 decided the question of merger forever. When he died on October 17, 1989 Goa had already attained statehood. This special cover was sponsored by Konkani Kala Mandir, Merces, Goa to commemorate his birth centenary on April 20, 2015 with a Santa Cruz place cancelation with a map of Goa and Opinion Poll party symbol of two leaves.

A special cover released by the Department of Posts to commemorate the World Life Day 2022 on March 3, 2022 has the following
a) Gaur (Bos Gaurus) is the state animal of Goa

Saints and Poets of Goa


A 6 Naipaisa Postcard with a special SFX cancellation of the January 6, 1965 and issued by the Department of Posts, Government of India, during the 12th Saint Francis Xavier Exposition held from November 24, 1964 to January 6, 1965

LANGUAGE & LITERATURE


A special cover with a cache of Shenoi Goembab (Father of Modern Konkani Language) Birth Centenary (1877-1977) and a cancelation of Shenoi Goembab, third Philatelic Exhibition held at Panaji on November 14, 1976.

PERSONALITIES OF GOA


Damodar Dharmananda Kosambi (July 31, 1907 – June 29, 1966) was an Indian polymath with interests in mathematics, statistics, philology, history and genetics. He contributed to genetics by introducing the Kosambi map function. In statistics, he was the first person to develop orthogonal infinite series expressions for stochastic processes via the Kosambi–Karhunen–Loève theorem. He is also well known for his work in numismatics and for compiling critical editions of ancient Sanskrit texts.

FESTIVALS OF GOA
Carnival in Goa, also called “Carnaval”, “Intruz”, “Entrado”, or (colloquially) “Viva Carnival” refers to the festival of carnival, or Mardi Gras, in the Indian state of Goa. Though significantly smaller than the well-known Rio Carnival or the Portuguese Carnival of Madeira, the Goa Carnival is the largest in India and one of the few traditional celebrations of the Western Christian holiday in Asia

ART, CINEMA, DANCE, FASHION, MUSIC & PAINTINGS OF GOA
This year we are celebrating the birth centenary of Mario Miranda (May 2, 1926 – December 11, 2011), or Mario de Miranda, who was an Indian cartoonist and painter based in Loutolim, Goa. His cartoons and characters are famous all over the world. Some of the recently released picture postcards along with a special cancellation of “poder” which was released on May 2, 2026 on his birth centenary are enclosed too.

DEENANATH MANGESHKAR


Deenanath Mangeshkar (December 29, 1900 – April 24, 1942) was a well-known Marathi theatre actor, a natya sangeet musician and a Hindustani classical vocalist.
Dekhni (also spelled dekni, dekni, dekhni) is a semi classical Goan dance form.

FASHION


Wendell Rodricks (May 28, 1960 – February 12, 2020) was an Indian fashion designer and author based in Goa. He was also an activist for social causes, the environment and gay rights. In 2014, the government of India conferred upon him its fourth-highest civilian award, the Padma Shri. Second stamp in the top row depicts his fashion design under the Indian Fashion Series 4.

FOOD & SPICES OF GOA
Bebinca


Bebinca or bebinka, is a layer cake of Indo-Portuguese cuisine in former Estado da India Portuguesa, Goa. It’s also referred as Queen of Goan Desserts. In traditional baking, a bebinca has between seven and 16 layers.

Goan Cashew Feni


Feni is a spirituous liquor indigenous to the state of Goa, India. The two most popular types of feni are cashew feni and coconut feni, depending on the original ingredient; however, many other varieties are sold. The small-batch distillation of feni has a fundamental effect on its final character, which still retains some of the delicate aromatics, congeners, and flavor elements of the juice from which it was produced

A special cover was released by the Department of Posts, to commemorate the Silver Jubilee celebrations, December, 1986.

A First Day cover on was released on 19th December, 2011 by the Department of Posts, Govt of India on 19th December, 2011 to commemorate the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Goa Liberation.

Diamond Jubilee Celebrations
A special cover to commemorate the Diamond Jubilee celebrations of Goa Liberation was released by the Honourable PM Shri Narendra Modi at the Syamaprasad Memorial Stadium, Bambolim, Goa during the 19th December, 2021, with a Mystamp of Goa@60.

FREEDOM FIGHTERS OF GOA


Tristão de Bragança Cunha (2 April 1891 – 26 September 1958), alternatively spelled as Tristao de Braganza Cunha, was a prominent Indian nationalist and anti-colonial activist from Goa (then part of Portuguese India). He is popularly known as the “Father of Goan nationalism”, and was the organiser of the first movement to end Portuguese rule in Goa. And was the organiser of the first movement to end Portuguese rule in Goa.

Voice of Goa Liberation


During Goa’s liberation movement, Libia Lobo used to run an underground radio service called “Voz de Liberdade” in Portuguese, ‘Goenche Sadvonecho Awaz’ in Konkani and the “Voice of Freedom” in English. The broadcasts started in 1955 from the jungles of Amboli bordering Goa.

Motor Pilot Taxi
A unique mode of transport to Goans is the motor pilot taxi, a special cover on it was recently released and this is a carried cover from the Head Post Office, Panaji, Goa to the Velha, Goa (Old Goa) on a Typical Motor Pilot Taxi with the signature of the carrier on December 2, 2021 one day prior to the Old Goa feast.

CULTURE & HERITAGE
There are several cultural and heritage monuments and buildings, churches, temples and architectural monuments in Goa, which are worth visiting including the UNESCO heritage sites.
The feast of São João in Goa coincides with the time of the year when the monsoon usually has commenced, there is fresh greenery and flowers in the surroundings, and wells and other water bodies are full. Consequently, the celebration of the birth of St John in Goa apparently evolved to incorporate elements of celebration of the rainy season. Jumping in wells and ponds is symbolic of the baby leaping in the womb, and of the baptism in the river Jordan. Tourists think it is only about jumping into wells. But the prayers we say before that are for a good monsoon.

Tambdi Surla Temple
Mahadeva Temple, Tambdi Surla is a 12th-century Shaivite temple in the Kadamba style dedicated to Lord Shiva and an active place of Hindu worship. It is an ASI protected monument of national Importance in Goa. This special cover is a carried cover from Goa to Antarctica and back during the fifth Indian Scientific Expedition to Antarctica along with the India’s first research station, Dakshin Gangotri cancelation. Also a Republic Day January 26, 1986 at Antarctica.

National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, Goa
The National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, Goa is one of the oldest, laboratories which was established on January 1, 1966 by the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research as part of its constituent Laboratories and currently celebrating its Diamond Jubilee year. A special cover was released to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the National Institute of Oceanography and 50 years of the International Indian Ocean Expedition (1961-1965). The Institute launched several National and International programs such as Antarctic Expeditions, Poly Metallic Nodules Exploration, etc.
A First Day cover of the First Indian Antarctica Expedition which was led by late Dr SZ Qasim, who was then Director of the National Institute of Oceanography, Dona Paula, Goa. St Augustine Tower, Old Goa
Church of St. Augustine is a ruined church complex located in Old Goa. The church was completed in 1602 and is part of the World Heritage Site. The church was built on top of the Monte Santo (Holy Hill), between 1597 and 1602 by Augustinian friars who landed in Goa in 1587. The church was considered one of the three great Augustinian churches in the Iberian world along with El Escorial and the Monastery of São Vicente de Fora.
A special cover was also released with picture of St Augustine Tower also during the CHOGM 1983. The stamp which was released during the CHOGM 1983 depicts a Goan couple. The cancellation is that of Mangueshi Temple.

Conde de Linhares Bridge
The Ponte Conde de Linhares (English: Count of Linhares Bridge), often shortened to Ponte de Linhares is a 3.2 km (2.0 mi) long causeway connecting Ribandar to the main city of Panjim (now Panaji) in Goa, India. It runs along the flood plains of the Mandovi River and is surrounded by various salt pans. There are ducts which act as tide controls. The Ponte Conde de Linhares was built in 1633-34 under the direction of the then Viceroy of Portuguese India, Miguel de Noronha, 4th Count of Linhares, after whom it is named. The bridge is often said to have been the longest in the world at 3.2 km (2.0 mi) when it was completed in 1634.
A special cover was released on GOAPEX 1995 with a CABO palace Cancellation and Shri Dinanath Mangueshkar Stamp released by the Department of posts.

Goan beaches
Goa has some of the World famous beaches. Two such beaches. namely Anjuna and Bogmalo are depicted in stamps released by the Govt of India and a First Day Cover with the above beach stamps was released long back on August 11, 1997.
