HUSBANDS SHOULD KNOW HOW TO COOK, BE WILLING TO WASH VESSELS!

HUSBANDS SHOULD KNOW HOW TO COOK, BE WILLING TO WASH VESSELS!

Sept 12- Sept 18, 2026, Stray Thoughts

AND a few stray thoughts for yet another Saturday. For a Saturday following the week when the Satya Niketan tragedy occurred in the national capital. For a Saturday following the week a new gold standard for aspiring husbands was set by singer Shreya Ghoshal. This is revealed in a post that her husband, Shiladitiya Mukopadhyay, is ever ready to wash the dishes and do other household jobs. For a Saturday following the week when the new office building of the Bharat Janata Party which was only partially inaugurated by Home Minster Amit Shah on September 5, 2026.

SATYA NIKETAN TRAGEDY
AND a few stray thoughts on the Satya Niketan tragedy which occurred in the national capital. It may be recalled that the “Jhootniketan” tragedy happened primarily because the Delhi University South campus does not have adequate accommodation for students who come from all parts of the country. Delhi University has more than 2.5 lakh students but only 9,000 hostel beds. Consequently, students from colleges such as Aryabhatta College (formerly known as Arya Bhatt), Motilal Nehru College, and Jesus and Mary College (JMC) depend on the accommodation outside the university.
It has been revealed that there are 200 plus paying guest buildings in Satya Niketan which is the name of the area around the university campus. This old fully maintain buildings charge Rs15,000 to Rs18,000 for a dormitory bed. Now it has been established that the owner of the building built two additional floors without permission.
This is not an exception but there are dozens of Satya Niketans in other parts of the country. The owner of the building, who stays in Gurgaon has been arrested along with his wife and son, who were managing the building. Besides the seven students who were killed in the collapse of the five-storey building, it is not known how many are still buried under the debris.
Apparently, Viksit Bharat does not have advanced machinery to rescue students trapped beneath collapsed buildings. Interestingly, amongst those arrested is the labor contractor. There is no accountability at all when there are such a disaster. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has not resigned. Which is not surprising, as India does not have the tradition of politicians taking responsibility for any tragedy.
All this reminds me of the story of hanging the person whose neck fits their noose. The story goes that in a kingdom, a wall collapsed, killing the son of one of the citizens. The father approached the king and asked for justice. The builder was summoned and he claimed it was the fault of the mason. The mason was summoned, and he claimed it was the fault of the water carrier. The water carrier claimed that he had to travel a long distance to fetch the water. There was a hole in the water bag. And he was distracted by the lady singing in her balcony. The king then decided that the lady was responsible for the collapse of the wall. The hangman got ready but found that the neck was too slender for the noose. The king then ordered that the person with the thickest neck should be hanged.

GOLD STANDARD FOR HUSBANDS
AND a few stray thoughts on the new gold standard for aspiring husbands, as the singer Shreya Ghoshal revealed in a post that her husband, Shiladitiya Mukopadhyay, is ever ready to wash the dishes and do other household jobs. Shreya has also shared that when her son was still very young, her husband would attend to the infant at night, allowing her to sleep soundly. Shreya insists that there were never any ego problems between her and her husband.
In fact, her husband Shiladitiya would get upset if she tried to help in the kitchen. By the way Shaliditiya Mukopadhyaya is not a stay at home as “wife jamai.” He is a technology entrepreneur with a net worth of Rs500 crore. Shiladitiya is an electronics engineer who is the global head of Truecaller (business). Not just being married but being parents of celebrities or gifted children is a great challenge. Shreya’s father, a nuclear engineer, and her mother, a postgraduate in literature, moved to Mumbai to nurture Shreya’s musical journey.
The Goa parallel is Sonia Sirsad, a commerce graduate, who made it in music with the support of a doctor Hindu father and Catholic mother. Sonia chose the father, the then director of the Fundacao Oriente, Sergio Masaranhas told her that she had a voice that was idol for her father. So watch out, aspiring husbands: your dream girl will not marry you unless you cook or wash the dishes!

NEW BJP PREMISES
AND a few stray thoughts on the new office building of the Bharatiya Janata Party which was only partially inaugurated by Home Minster Amit Shah on September 5. It may be recalled that the formal inauguration was postponed after the collapse of the Satya Niketan building in New Delhi. The new basement plus four-storied BJP headquarters is located in a plot of 3,000 sq mts. It has spacious rooms for the party president, the office bearers, the chief minister and other BJP ministers. The total built-up area exceeds over 30,000 sq mts. The building has an auditorium which can accommodate over 8,000 karyakarta. It is smart building with the latest audio visual equipment including CCTV and spike cam so that Amit Shah can keep a watch on BJP party official and ministers. The building is not fully complete as the interiors has still to ne finish.
The BJP claims the cost of the structure is only Rs25 crore. Independent observers point out that similar buildings in the area have cost up to Rs70 crore. The BJP claims that it was financed by BJP karyakarta. There are persistence rumors that the casino lobby bankrolled the new BJP headquarters. The BJP has a lot of money to build and expand party headquarters in every state. But of course there is not enough money to repair or replace old crumbling primary school buildings. The slogan seems to be “Party strong karo, not school theek karo.”

ALLAHABAD HIGH COURT SLAMS MEDHA ROOPAM
AND a few stray thoughts on the Allahabad High Court slamming the Noida district magistrate, Medha Roopam. Medha Roopam, the daughter of the Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, illegally detained Akriti Chaudhary who was protesting against the poor condition of construction workers under the National Security Act. Akriti is a 25-year-old Delhi University student. The HC described the conduct of the district magistrate as deplorable. The court pointed out that there was no credible ground for detention of the student activist.
The HC bench consisting of Justice Atul Shridhran and Achal Sachdev stressed that there was no material showing that Chaudary had incited violence despite participation in a labor rights agitation. The three month detention violated her right to life and personal liberty. The court called it despotic conduct and has directed Roopam to pay compensation of Rs5 lakh to the victim. We hope other judges and court in the country will similarly punish the police for illegally detaining student activists. Like the mass FIRs filed against student activists during the Jantar Mantar agitation by the Janata Cockroach Party in Delhi and across the country to follow.
This may not happen because the police are faithful not to the Constitution but to the home minister of the country. This was dramatized by the director-general of Goa police kneeling before Amit Shah and Pramod Sawant during the Presidential Colors award ceremony at the Dr Shyama Prasad Mukerjee Stadium.

FREEBIE TIMES ARE HERE
AND a last stray thought on the elections coming up early next year. It is freebie time. The latest freebie announced by the Pramod Sawant government is a distribution of Rs 3,000 to pay for three free gas cylinders, it is one of the promises made during the last election by the BJP. On the eve of Chovoth Chief Minister Pramod Sawant announced that Rs3,000 would be deposited in the bank accounts of all 2.5 lakh DDSSY and Griha Aadhar beneficiaries before September 12, 2026 in time for the Ganesh festival.
Those who are not registered under the Griha Adhar and DDSSY scheme are also eligible for the Rs3,000 gift. There is no income limit for receiving Rs3,000 under the Goa Ujwala Yojana. The government has reportedly allotted Rs100 crore for this pre-election “gift.” Every household can claim the Rs3,000 grant. The documents required include bank details, LPG book, Aadhaar, and voter ID. Following the announcement, there is a huge crowd at Panchayat at Municipality offices.
This is because as in the case of every government scheme, you have to fill out forms to get any benefit. Very conveniently, forms are available at the office of the local MLA and even the municipal councilor in the case of Panaji. After all, the Monserrate family should demonstrate that it still rules Panaji and Taleigao.
