100 `DARU’ SHOPS IN CALANGUTE

THERE are as many as over a 100 illegal liquor and wine shops in the Calangute-Candolim belt! Such ad hoc shops operate in Calangute, Colva and Arambol. Most of the liquor outlets are leased out to bhaile by Goans. Legally, to get a liquor or wine shop license you have to be a resident of Goa with  a minimum stay of 25 years in Goa. One of the rules stipulated is that no liquor or wine outlet may sublet or lease itself out in another person’s name. All this is in the light of Goa’s Food & Drug Administration putting question marks over Silly Souls Café & Bar in Assagao. The truth is the Directorate of Food & Drugs Administration’s license to Silly Souls was issued in the name of Eightall Food and Beverages Limited liability partnership, the very company in which two firms controlled by Smriti Irani’s husand and family, own a 75% stake.  

FINAL ADMISSION FOR PG

THE final admission for post-graduate seat of the Goa University left vacant at the University and the 16 affiliate colleges will be filled up soon. The final year results of the undergraduate general education programs have been recently announced. Candidates who have announced provisional admission based on Goa University Admission Ranking Test (GUART) for various post-graduate programs have been directed. The seats will be allotted on the availability on the order of GUART rank amongst students who have expressed interest in admission. Selected candidates will have to complete enrolment including payment of fees latest by September 18, 2022.

OXFAM TAX CHECK

CONVINCED that prestigious western media NGOs are against the BJP the Modi government has ordered income-tax checks on Oxfam and the Bengaluru-based trust Independent & Public Spirited Media Foundation (IPSMF). Ever since it came to power the Narendra Modi government has been carrying out enforcement raids and income-tax checks on independent media houses with a democratic outlook. Among the victims are a trust set up by think tanks headed by former London School of Economic principal Minakshi   Gopinath and former foreign secretary Shyam Sharan. The Azim Premji Trust and Rohini Nadar, who heads the HCL group, are also under the scanner.

PARTIES IN SLUM FETCH RS150 CRORE!

IT is not only Anjuna and Vagator which generate huge amounts of money on parties. The Delhi and Mumbai police has discovered that even some unrecognized political parties are organizing rave parties in slum areas. In raids carried out over Rs150 crore was recovered from parties thrown in the slums. The slums are only a cover and those attending the parties are from middle class families.

GET SET FOR MULYAVARDHAN EDUCATION

CHIEF Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on September 8, 2022 expressed his happiness with the  implementation of Mulyavardhan value based education program at primary level in Goa. He said he was impressed by  results submitted by the Muttha Foundation after taking a look at the drawing sheets of students from 453 schools from across the State, “The creativity of  creativity of government school students is praiseworthy.” He was speaking at a review meeting held to discuss a virtual interaction program scheduled on September 17 with teachers, parents, PTA members, sarpanch and panch members.

The implementation of the National Education Policy, merging schools, the Mulyavardhan Shikshan Concept and Mid-Day Milk Program will be discussed.   All primary government and government-aided schools will participate in this program to understand the Mulyavardhan module.

The CM made it clear that no schools are being closed and this idea is to improve quality of education in schools. The Nipun Bharat Mission will also be launched on the same day. Those who attended the meeting included Director of Education Shailesh Zingade, ADIs and other officers and officials of the Education department.
